Do You Have a Mentor?

There's a dangerous narrative most Americans believe about the importance of making it to the top by harnessing our own quiet will and determination.

Maybe at some point in your own life you've thought to yourself:

  • True success is a solitary journey

  • I better figure this out before anyone finds out I don't know what I'm doing

  • The best never show weakness and don't ask for help

  • I don't need anyone to accomplish my goals

  • It's up to me how far I make it in this life

I had a mentor who is very, very successful. Lots of money, lots of property, lots of influence. He taught me a whole heck of a lot.

But what I admire most about him is how he'd begin a college course we co-taught together. Semester after semester he'd always start with a story about the help he received along the way; he wanted to make sure the budding leaders in our class knew they weren't going to be able to do it alone.

Even he - a farm boy who made it to the top - was quick to recognize his parents, teachers, neighbors, community leaders and mentors formed an invisible team to support his development.

I've been lucky to learn from folks like him and even luckier to realize the power of paying it forward by mentoring those who might benefit from my experience.

Everyone “gets” the importance of mentorship - but few people know how to get a mentor, or begin a mentoring relationship.

A question I often receive is:

"How do I even begin looking for a mentor? And when I find someone who I'd like to learn from, how do I form a relationship with them?"

I get it - it can be intimidating to reach out to people you admire and ask them to guide you for a season.

So, I created a workshop to help folks looking for guidance identify, approach and establish mentoring relationships.

If you need a mentor in your life or you want to learn how to be a mentor to others, you need to join us for:

Finding Your Guide
Tuesday, September 15th
12:00pm - 1:00pm CT

In this session we'll:

  • Reflect on the areas you need to grow to help identify the right mentor for you

  • Work through a formula for approaching and building relationships with potential mentors

  • Reinforce the importance of you becoming a mentor and paying it forward

  • Provide strategies for becoming a fantastic mentor

We'll do real work and you'll walk away with a plan you can put to work to bring the power of mentorship into your life. I hope to see you there!
