Don't Forget the Synthesizer
Some have the gift of developing new ideas. The entrepreneur types who can come up with a list of approaches and solutions on the fly. They are able to create something out of nothing and are widely admired for it. Their brain is always on.
Then there are the sustainers; individuals who can manage a process and keep it going. They like setting up systems and following them. They have the ability to trust the process and maintain a steady hand as they steer the ship, staving off a wandering mind.
The finishers enjoy seeing projects through to completion. They take pride in a job well done. They find their identity in the ability to end well and reflect on what worked and what didn't.
Ideally we could be all three of these people but I don't know if it's possible.
There's also sometimes a fourth person: the synthesizer. The synthesizer can talk about what's happening. They have the ability to stand back, be silent, and see trends. They weave themes together. They can condense what everyone else is saying, however unintelligible, and produce a message everyone agrees with and understands.
Do you have a synthesizer on your team?
